You know how in school there were these maths problems involving one person buying a 1000 pineapples, or 500 pencils?
Back then, they seemed atrocious and impossible. We had a good laugh when those problems were discussed because we were talking about magnitudes that were purely unrealistic.
That was, however, a long time ago. Now, in medical school, the subject “Biostatistics” brought it all back to life and I am not quite sure about how I feel about its inclusion into the curriculum.
I don’t like being given problems that involve numbers and asked to solve for the purpose of marks or examinations. In my leisure time, give me a 5th standard or maybe 10th standard book and ask me to solve it just for fun, I’ll do it but at my own pace.
So, biostatistics.
It’s a 1000 pineapples all over again, except, the pineapples have turned into people and when that happens, the situation becomes a tad bit depressing and not to mention, possible.
Let me show you the definition of depression in one of the problems I had to solve today.
Well, I’m not happy with the way maths entered my life again.
The fact that this is all real makes it even worse.
What are your thoughts on obnoxious pineapple buyers and mathematics in general?

I’m an Economics Major and had been studying statistics as my main subject for the last 1 year. So I can relate to this! 😛 And just so you could know, we still deal with pineapples!!

Hahaha they said math wasn’t going to leave us but looks like pineapples are equally sticky! Wow I can imagine how a whole subject allotted for it could be like….mine is just a part of preventive medicine..maybe people should start using pineapples for Halloween too…😂

Sorry for math dragging itself back to your life, however, the biostatistic course your taking resembles so much of my applied demography course I took in my second year while in Maseno University.

I think I know why….we have a whole chapter on demography and family planning in social and preventive medicine. I HATE IT. I don’t know if you like it or not but I’m glad you know what I’m talking about at least! Hi5 mate!
